PURR-FECT BOX – CAT FOOD SUBSCRIPTION UX/UI CASE STUDY
Project Overview
Purr-fect Box is a subscription-based cat food service designed to simplify recurring food purchases for cat owners. The aim of the project was to reduce the friction of repeat ordering while giving users more control over their subscriptions.
The focus was on creating a system that feels simple to manage over time, not just at the point of purchase.
Research and Insights
Research into pet owner behaviour showed that most users repeatedly buy the same products and value convenience over variety.
A key frustration was the lack of flexibility in subscription services. Users often struggled to pause, update or adjust deliveries without going through complex settings.
Trust was also important, especially around delivery reliability and control over ongoing orders.
Competitive Analysis
Existing subscription services often make it difficult for users to manage their plans. Subscription controls are frequently hidden within account settings, making them hard to find.
This created an opportunity to design a clearer system where subscription management is easy to access and understand.
User Persona
The primary user is a busy cat owner who relies on regular food deliveries and prefers subscription services to reduce effort.
Their goal is to ensure consistent deliveries without needing to constantly manage orders.
Key frustrations include rigid systems, unclear delivery schedules and complex account structures.
User Journey
The user journey includes browsing products, selecting a subscription, setting delivery frequency and managing ongoing orders.
A key insight was that users need reassurance when committing to a subscription, particularly around flexibility and control.
Information Architecture
The structure focuses on three main areas: product browsing, subscription setup and account management.
Subscription controls are kept easy to access so users can make changes without friction.
User Flow
User flows were designed around onboarding, subscription setup and ongoing management, with a focus on reducing steps and simplifying decision-making.
Wireframes and Iteration
Wireframes explored how users interact with subscription options and account settings. Iterations focused on making key actions clearer, such as pausing or editing a plan.
Visual Design
The visual style is warm and friendly, reflecting the relationship between pet owners and their cats.
A consistent design system ensures clarity across all screens.
Accessibility
Accessibility was considered through readable typography, strong contrast and simple navigation patterns.
High-Fidelity Design
The final screens show product browsing, subscription setup, delivery scheduling and account management in a clear and structured way.
Final Outcome
The final design simplifies recurring cat food purchases while giving users full control over their subscription in a clear and predictable way.
